DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20.1-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand Review

DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20.1-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable StandThis monitor is one of the best models you can buy for the money! The S-IPS monitors are getting rare these days and are more and more replaced by the cheaper to manufacture TN-Panels. S-IPS panel monitors are known to have excellent viewing angles and color reproduction. They are most suitable for photo/ video editing.

The earlier models (Rev. 02) of the 2007wfp monitors had some problems with banding issues. These issues seem to be mostly fixed in the Rev. 03 models. There have been 2 different panels used in this monitor. S-PVA and S-IPS. The S-PVA panels are also very good, but have slightly different specs.
To find out what panel your 2007wfp has, you can go into the monitor setup menu:

1- Turn off your screen
2- Press simultaneously the 'Menu' and '+' button of the screen.
3- While holding the 2 buttons, press now the 'Power' button.
4- Once the screen in ON, unpress the 3 buttons.
5- Just press '-' button.

You can run a search on the panel code that is listed in the menu and find out what you received!
Best of luck!

Dell Ultrasharp 2007fp 20-inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand Review

Dell Ultrasharp 2007fp 20-inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable StandOne of the few monitor available with a 4:3 dimension ratio.Great for photo editing, it also pivots from landscape to portrait (and goes up or down easily) if you need to see a larger portrait format.Very easy to install and with very fine definition, great colors and blacks. More features (for gamers I think) that I would use.Really fantastic clear, flat image with good viewing angle.

As usual I did a fair amount of research on foot and on the web. This model seemed to be a favorite of photograph editors.Of course it is excellent for everyday computing too.I can sit 3 to 4 feet away from the monitor and read comfortably text that's 9 points high ( I am an older guy) with the screen resolution set at 1280 x 1024 pixels! (Screen dimensions are 16" wide by 12" high - Max pixels is 1600 x 1200 )

I hope Dell continues to make 4:3 monitors. The present direction is for 16:9 wide screens though (my local tech center did not carry any 4:3 hence my purchase from Amazon) so get yours while there are still some around.

Also of note: the shipping (not from Amazon) was free and the product was delivered in 2 or 3 days (from TX to PA).

25.5IN Ws LCD 800:1 1920X1200 16:10 60HZ LCD2690WUXI2 Dvi-d VGA Review

25.5IN Ws LCD 800:1 1920X1200 16:10 60HZ LCD2690WUXI2 Dvi-d VGAI compared LCD2690WUXI2 to the earlier LCD2690WUXI side by side. The new model lacks the A-TW polarizer (Advanced True Wideangle), lack of which causes a significant off-angle white glow. I found it truly bothersome with a screen of that size - with an image with significant black areas you have to sit and look perfectly on-center to avoid that phenomenon. Very unfortunate cost-savings on the NEC's part. With the original model, you can look at the display from any angle, and it will look perfectly the same - pretty astonishing in fact. Needless to say I promptly returned the new NEC and bought another original (now own two).

This is a shame, because otherwise it's truly outstanding monitor. Version 2 has improved controls that make switching between color spaces easier than on the original. The original LCD2690WUXI is no-doubt my favorite piece of equipment I have bought recently. The original deserves 5 stars. If I didn't know what the new monitor is missing, I'd have given it four stars, but since I know I give it two.

Dell UltraSharp U2711 27-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor (G615T) Review

Dell UltraSharp U2711 27-inch Widescreen Flat Panel MonitorI've had this monitor for a month now and I've to say that it's phenomenal. I was using the Dell 2405FPW for 5 years until the U2711 was released, almost matching the resolution of the 30-inch (2560 by 1600), at almost half the price. It's a bargain.

The resolution is outstanding at 2560 by 1440. Yes, there's 160 pixels missing from the bottom compared to a typical 30-inch, but coming up from 1920 by 1200 it doesn't really matter.

The colours are vibrant, which is great. The text is a bit smaller, of a size you typically see on 13-inch laptops. It took me a while to get used to the smaller font size.

This set is still non-glossy. But apparently, Dell has applied some anti-glare coating. I've read on forums that some customers disliked it but I've no problem with it.

Compared to a 24-inch, 1920 by 1200, the U2711 isn't much taller, it's much wider. I can fit two webpages, 1024px each, and still be able to see icons on the desktop.

As for backlight bleeding, it's hard to detect. It means if your widescreen movies still show the letterbox black bars, you'll be less distracted.

The U2711 also works well with my PS3 via HDMI. I'm not sure of the audio capabilities but I use a 2.1 speaker plugged in with a 3.5mm jack. One thing to note is you'll have to set the audio settings on your PS3 to output 2.1 sound to make sure they output all the sound, dialogue, effects, surround, etc.

Gaming on the PS3 is very enjoyable. The games had to be upscaled and there's a notch of graininess. Not really an issue unless you're sitting really close. Everything looks pretty snappy and I don't notice any lag but I'm don't really play FPS games.

Note that this monitor would require a decent graphics card with dual-DVI output. If you want to game at the maximum resolution, they you need a powerful card.

This is a huge physical monitor. My table is really small and it took up almost half of it. But not regrets.

I managed to get this LCD at US$690 equivalent in Asia, Singapore. It's really value for money. This set is going to last me for a long time, until the slimmer LED version comes out in who-knows-which year.

I would recommend this monitor to graphic designers, photographers or anything who multi-task a lot.

- For Mac Users -

I'm using this on a Mac Pro and have powered it on two graphic card, not both at the same time. It's plug and play, no drivers required.

On the ATI Radeon X1900XT, you won't be able to see the dual boot screen if you hold Alt after the startup (that's if you're using Boot Camp). On the ATI Radeon 4870, it works just flawlessly.

- For technical reviews, just visit the links in my comment section. I found and used them while researching on the U2711.

NEC EA261WM-BK 26 inch LCD 1920 x 1200 400 cd/m2 DVI/USB Hub black Cabinet Monitor Review

NEC EA261WM-BK 26 inch LCD 1920 x 1200 400 cd/m2 DVI/USB Hub black Cabinet MonitorOur initial impression of NEC's widescreen 26-inch EA261WM LCD monitor was overwhelmingly positive, primarily due to the thought put into its ergonomics. What puzzles us most about monitor design is why--even with obscenely expensive panels--user comfort is so often overlooked. If you're planning on shelling out a load of cash for a monitor, something as simple as height adjustment (rather than the default homebrew solution of piles of books) seems like an obvious feature. The EA261WM includes not only height adjustment but pivot, tilt, and swivel adjustments as well, making it easy to share information on your screen with coworkers or even switch to a portrait configuration, should the need arise.

The EA261WM is also one of only 26 monitors to achieve EPEAT's gold rating, the highest standard for environmental friendliness. To further emphasize its green attributes, the monitor includes an ECO mode, which lowers power consumption, and a carbon-footprint reader tells you just how much you're doing to save the planet by lowering the brightness on your monitor.

While we're all for good industrial design and eco-consciousness, we're not interested in gaining these attributes at the cost of performance, and we continued to be impressed by the EA261WM after we loaded up a collection of high-res images. During our high-def side-by-side image comparisons, we were happy with the panel's ability to display deeply saturated colors which, while rich, never slipped in to the realm of cartoonish. But while we found the monitor's color depth top-notch, the EA261WM had serious issues differentiating grayscales at the dark end of the spectrum. We observed a strong loss of detail in both black-and-white and color photos. In portraits, people's hair lacked detail, looking like a single-colored mass, where other displays showed off more texture and slight changes in color. Similarly, the tree line in a sunset landscape looked like a solid mass rather than the individual tress that appeared on other monitors.

This same issue presented itself in our movie test--some particularly dark scenes in V for Vendetta came across as a mass of black, rather than a range of black and grays. Utilizing the monitor's video mode helped with this issue by increasing the contrast ratio; however, the preset also ratcheted up the brightness so much as to make some night scenes look as if they were taking place in the daytime.

Our DisplayMate ([...]) tests backed up what we saw in our real-world benchmarks. The EA261WM performed admirably at the white end of the suite's grayscale test, showing good distinctions between colors almost to the end of the scale; however, at the dark end of the spectrum, the monitor failed to shine, showing little differentiation through eight steps in the test.

With its wealth of ergonomic adjustments, we could see the EA261WM being a hit in the workplace, particularly if you need to share what's on your screen with people close to you; however, while the panel's rich colors impressed us, we found its trouble with darker shades to be an issue, making it a poor choice for people working with photos or video.+ Great ergonomic options; eco friendly.

- Poor performance in grayscale testing.

Verdict: 7 out of 10

ViewSonic VP2365WB 23-Inch IPS LCD Monitor Review

ViewSonic VP2365WB 23 inch IPS LCD MonitorThis is a great monitor -- well thought out, great ergonomics, excellent color reproduction, and of course, a spectacular field of view, thanks to the premium IPS screen.I can look at this screen from virtually any angle without color shifts or brightness changes.

Don't believe the reviews that complain about dimness problems...I don't know what kind of retina-searing technology people are looking for, but this monitor is actually a bit brighter than the LED-backlit screen on my MacBook, which is itself a fairly bright screen.I run them both side-by-side, and I couldn't be happier with the pairing.I've had no complaints about image quality, whatsoever.

Aside from the quality of the panel, this monitor has lots of nice little touches that I demand from a "pro" monitor:a 5-inch height adjust (ESSENTIAL for me, as I'm over six feet tall); the ability to pivot the screen 180 degrees; a wide, stable stand; and a minimalist design. This is not one of those cheap-looking, shiny plastic monstrosities that you'll find at Costco -- the bezel is thin and unobtrusive, and the buttons are tasteful and small. It's no Cinema Display, but it's as nice a design as you'll find without shelling out twice the cash. (Alas!)

My complaints are minor:the controls are a bit goofy to use, and more thought could have been put into the on-screen display. Also, I'd love a version of the display with an LED backlight.Other than that, I think it's a great buy.Highly recommended to anyone who appreciates the quality improvements given by an IPS display.

Hewlett-Packard 30-Inch Lcd Monitor (EZ320A8#ABA) Review

Hewlett-Packard 30 inch Lcd MonitorI have been using this monitor for four months now and plan to get a second in the very near future. The colours are true, display is sharp and bright. And there is nothing like working on a big screen.

It delivers exactly as promised with one very minor shortcomming, like all 30" monitors on offer at the moment it only works at full resolution, there is no scaling chip to support downgraded resolutions. This does not matter if you are using it with a graphics card that can support the full resolution as the issue is known and the cards will do the scaling if necessary.

The only practical limitation is that you cannot plug this monitor into a machine that does not support its native resolution. This is not a likely to be a problem as you are not likely to buy it unless you have a machine that can drive it! At the moment the graphics card settup will set you back almost as much as the monitor or more if you have an SLI setup.

I looked at the Dell and Apple alternatives. The HP is somewhat cheaper and has both a built in DVI switch and USB 2.0 hub. According to the specs you can only drive dual link DVI over 15 ft of cable but I have this working fine over a 50 ft cable driven by an nVidia 8800 GTS.
