Dell UltraSharp 2408WFP - LCD display - TFT - 24' - widescreen - 1920 x 1200 - 400 cd/m2 - 1300:1 - 3000:1 - 6 ms - 0.27 mm HDMI, 2xDVI-D, VGA, DisplayPort - black - with Height Adjustable Stand and 3-Years Advanced Exchange WarrantyThe 2408 WFP offers good features and image quality but at a pretty expensive price.I upgraded from a 2001FP and the height adjustment isn't as easy to use as my FP older model. The monitor quality also isn't as sharp as other Korean brand monitors like LG and Samsung. I basically bought this Dell monitor for its ergonomic features for working long hours but I wouldn't recommend it for casual home PC shoppers.

Dell 2407 WFP Review

Dell 2407 WFPYou can't overstate the difference in going from a 19-inch CRT to a 24-inch LCD.If you use a PC a lot, it'll change your life. That's true for me even though I routinely use two monitors at the same time with an "extended desktop" in Windows XP Pro.

The Dell 2407WFP is an extremely well-though-out, high-quality piece of hardware and I highly recommend it.

But here are some things that you should know about extended-width monitors in general that I tried to find out before I bought this one, but couldn't:

1.If your graphics card is more than a year old and currently supports a monitor with a 4:3 aspect ratio, it probably will NOT correctly support the 16:10 aspect ratio of a widescreen monitor.Instead, it takes a 4x3 image and stretches it to fill the new widescreen. That means that photos will be distorted by being too wide, much like an HDTV does to a normal 4:3 television image.

2.However, it's still worth it even with an older graphics card.Because of the increase in size, you can increase the resolution displayed by your graphics card to 1280 x 1024 or 1600 x 1200.This will still have a "stretched" 4:3 aspect ratio, but you can get a lot more on the screen. For example, Outlook's three columns have enough space that the third preview column is as wide as a normal page. You can see a great many more Excel spreadsheet columns.Programs that will display a variety of items like Paperport have a lot more room to spread out and are MUCH easier to use. Programs that can't take advantage of the increased width as easily--for example Word or Internet Explorer--still look better on this monitor.Everything is still distorted by the stretched width, but you only notice it for photos--and you even get used to that.If you have a traditional monitor next to this LCD like I do, you can move the image to that monitor to eliminate the distortion if you're really curious about the difference.I quit bothering after a while.

3.Newer graphics cards will support true widescreen capability, and then you really have something.Your PC probably came with a smaller widescreen monitor in that case. But don't sweat it if your card is relegated to the 4:3 aspect ratio.

4.It also takes a newer graphics card to support rotating the display to portrait mode, which would be handy for Word and IE documents, for example. The PC graphics card enables and controls that functionality, not the monitor.

5.Playing TV through this monitor is great but you have to be aware of a few things.First, the provided DVI port does not work with 1080i video output by the DVI port of a cable modem. For technical reasons that are over my head, this model does not support interlaced video.Apparently future versions may.Second, the composite ports ARE compatible with the output from a cable box and the resulting TV looks beautiful. There is probably loss from the additional data conversions on each end, but it's not noticeable. What IS noticeable is the fact that PC widescreen monitors like this one ALL have 16:10 aspect ratios, while widescreen TVs ALL have 16:9 aspect ratios.(That probably makes sense to someone, but I haven't met that person yet.It probably has to do with some perceived reduced utility when using PC programs on a monitor that isn't "tall" enough.)When the cable box outputs its video to the monitor, you don't get the slight letterboxing I expected with narrow dark bands at the top and bottom.Instead, the picture stretches vertically to fit the screen, much as it stretches horizontally for the 4:3 output of a PC graphics card. The result is that the picture is about 11% taller than it should be--not terribly noticeable but still there. If you instead route TV to the monitor through a Vista HD-capable PC, this problem will be eliminated. At that point, your PC will have the advantage of being connected to the monitor though the DVI port as well. The only disadvantages are the usual delays and vagaries of Windows over and above the cable box, but Vista is much better than XP in that regard. And of course, Vista gives you DVR capability.

The only "con" specific to this monitor that I could find is that the settings for picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture are not "sticky".Once you set it up the way you want, it works great. But as soon as you change the input source from, say, the TV composite ports to the VGA PC port and back again, you have to start all over again when you activate either feature.

DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20.1-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand Review

DELL UltraSharp 2007WFP 20.1-inch Widescreen Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable StandThis monitor is one of the best models you can buy for the money! The S-IPS monitors are getting rare these days and are more and more replaced by the cheaper to manufacture TN-Panels. S-IPS panel monitors are known to have excellent viewing angles and color reproduction. They are most suitable for photo/ video editing.

The earlier models (Rev. 02) of the 2007wfp monitors had some problems with banding issues. These issues seem to be mostly fixed in the Rev. 03 models. There have been 2 different panels used in this monitor. S-PVA and S-IPS. The S-PVA panels are also very good, but have slightly different specs.
To find out what panel your 2007wfp has, you can go into the monitor setup menu:

1- Turn off your screen
2- Press simultaneously the 'Menu' and '+' button of the screen.
3- While holding the 2 buttons, press now the 'Power' button.
4- Once the screen in ON, unpress the 3 buttons.
5- Just press '-' button.

You can run a search on the panel code that is listed in the menu and find out what you received!
Best of luck!

Dell ST2210 21.5-Inch 16:9 Aspect Ratio Flat Panel Monitor Review

Dell ST2210 21.5 inch 16:9 Aspect Ratio Flat Panel MonitorAll of the Dell HD widescreen monitors work very well. This one as well.If you don't need built in speakers, you can save some money by getting the model without the speakers in it.The monitors handle very high refresh rates excellently and you can watch HD easily on the internet with it.Combine it with a high quality video card like any of the newer Nvidia models or a Diamond Stealth with ATI Radeon and you've got a truly superior monitor.

Dell UltraSharp 2707WFP - LCD display - TFT - 27' - widescreen - 1920 x 1200 / 60 Hz - 450 cd/m2 - 1000:1 - 6 ms - 0.303 mm - DVI-D, VGA - brushed aluminum, glossy blackThis is a great monitor when it came out in 2007. The new one is better and has HDMI but its more expensive and is only in black. Despite being an older model, this bad boy has a lot of connections works great with HD Movies. I use this with my MAC PRO and it works just as good as any other expensive model. I would have bought a larger more expensive 30" monitor from apple but since apple didn't offer any other connections or even a card reader, i choose this.

CONS: It gets a little hot in the backand makes noises when the plastic starts to cool down. so keep it in an open area. Its kind of heavy. The colors are not accurate so get a spyder to calibrate it.

Bottom line, for its size, resolution and price....you cant beat this monitor. Your getting a quality product from Dell.

I agree with the other guy, i want to get a second one to match this one.

Dell Ultrasharp 2007fp 20-inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable Stand Review

Dell Ultrasharp 2007fp 20-inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor with Height Adjustable StandOne of the few monitor available with a 4:3 dimension ratio.Great for photo editing, it also pivots from landscape to portrait (and goes up or down easily) if you need to see a larger portrait format.Very easy to install and with very fine definition, great colors and blacks. More features (for gamers I think) that I would use.Really fantastic clear, flat image with good viewing angle.

As usual I did a fair amount of research on foot and on the web. This model seemed to be a favorite of photograph editors.Of course it is excellent for everyday computing too.I can sit 3 to 4 feet away from the monitor and read comfortably text that's 9 points high ( I am an older guy) with the screen resolution set at 1280 x 1024 pixels! (Screen dimensions are 16" wide by 12" high - Max pixels is 1600 x 1200 )

I hope Dell continues to make 4:3 monitors. The present direction is for 16:9 wide screens though (my local tech center did not carry any 4:3 hence my purchase from Amazon) so get yours while there are still some around.

Also of note: the shipping (not from Amazon) was free and the product was delivered in 2 or 3 days (from TX to PA).

Dell UltraSharp 2001FP 20.1-inch Flat Panel LCD Monitor Review

Dell UltraSharp 2001FP 20.1-inch Flat Panel LCD MonitorI've had two of these for about a year. Believe it or not, yellow tape inside each monitor started coming loose and slipping down between the backlight and display surface, causing a yellow rectangular shape to appear in the upper left corner of each monitor. Search Dell's web site and you'll find similar complaints (and even photos) from other consumers. Note that several had the same problem with the newer 2007FP.

Dell finally sent warranty replacements for each monitor. The first had problems where certain types of graphics were overlaid with blocky red splotches; the second suddenly developed a huge streak of colored lines going down the center of it, rendering the monitor useless; even powering on/off and resetting to factory defaults wouldn't help.

So at this point I'm waiting to get another pair of replacements.

Dell E228WFP 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor 22", 1680x1050 resolution, 5ms response time, 800:1 Contrast Ratio Review

Dell E228WFP 22-inch Widescreen LCD Monitor 22', 1680x1050 resolution, 5ms response time, 800:1 Contrast RatioI bought this monitor for general purpose use and for gaming.
It fits the bill perfectly for ~$320.

PROS:
Fast response, no ghosting.
Decently clear, nice n bright
USB Hub built-in
HDMI Input
Overall good looking monitor with small footprint

CONS:
TN Monitor - colors arent the greatest.
Need to look at it DEAD ON, or colors shift.
Narrow viewing angle from all directions.
Colors screwed up in factory setting.turn down colors to ~70 (RGB)
No UP-DOWN or Tilt feature - cant expect it from an entry level monitor I guessAgain, for ~325,it gets the job done so thats why I gave it a 4 star.
The viewing angle is a bit too narrow even for entry level which is why it doesnt get a 5 star rating.

Happy computing!
